Here are a couple of announcements for the week of June 1 through June 5.
We want to start by thanking all of our parents and students for your efforts in returning school-owned items last week. With your help, we collected 90% of our Chromebooks, approximately $1,500 in school fees, several uniforms, and a significant amount of library books. A huge thank you to the parents who donated additional monies towards our cafeteria balance. The success of last week would not have been possible without your efforts. Thank you very much.
With that said, we still have folks that need to turn in school-owned items. We also still have an outstanding cafeteria debt of approximately $1,300. If you still need to turn in items, pay off your child's debt, or pick up your student's belongings, you can stop by this week between 8 am- 3:30 pm. Please call the office if you have any questions.
We no longer have yearbooks for sale. We would like to thank the yearbook staff for their hard work in producing one of the best yearbooks we have had in recent years.
If your child is returning to NCMS next year, a class supply list will be shared out in the next couple of weeks. We will post this information on our school website and Facebook page.
That is all for our announcements. Have a wonderful afternoon.
We hope that you are doing well. We want to let you know that the parent/student view of PowerSchool has been taken down to allow teachers to finalize EOY grades and to put in the course grades required by the North Carolina Department of Instruction. May 22 is our last day of instruction. Students will be given an opportunity to turn in missing work next week. We ask that students contact their teacher if they have any questions about missing assignments and deadlines to turn these in.
Parents, Per State Board policy, no end-of-year grades will be given in middle school courses this year due to COVID-19. Students will receive a PC19 or WC19 in each course. PC19 indicates grade-level proficiency. WC19 does not mean the student failed the course and does not imply grade retention. Rather, WC19 indicates a lack of evidence of grade-level proficiency. Rather than grades, we are providing feedback for each student. This feedback will be attached to your child's report card that will be mailed to you in June.
Included with this post is a link to an FAQ document that outlines what you will see as a final grade on your child's report card.
Starting the week of May 26th through May 29th, we will begin collecting school items and returning back student belongings that were left in lockers and classrooms. In addition to that, we will be distributing yearbooks to those who ordered one as well as selling the few extra yearbooks that we have for $40. The extra yearbooks will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
NCMS will utilize the car rider line for collecting and distributing items. Students and parents are not permitted into the building to collect belongings. Our staff has worked very hard to clean out lockers and classrooms and we will have these items bagged up and ready to give to you as you make your way through the car rider line. We ask for your patience and understanding as we have made preparations that we feel will keep our staff, parents, and students as safe as possible.
We will have three stations as you enter our parking lot.
Station 1 is for students to drop off Chromebooks, chargers, and cases. It is required that students return these items back to school. Staff will assist you in putting these items into a clear zip-lock bag. Students will be charged a replacement fee for any missing or damaged Chromebook items.
Station 2 is for students to drop off school-issued band instruments, athletic uniforms, library books, etc. If you do not have any items to drop off at Station 2 you can proceed to Station 3.
Station 3 is for collecting any belongings that were left in the building to be returned to students. You will pull up, give your students name and homeroom teacher and our staff will bring the bag of belongings to you. you do not have to get out of your vehicle. If you ordered a yearbook, the yearbook will also be given to you during this time. If you do not have any items to pick up, you can bypass Station 3.
Here are the dates and times of drop-off and pickup
May 26th: 1 pm-4 pm May 27th: 7 am-11 am & 1 pm -4 pm May 28th: 7 am-11 am & 1 pm-4 pm May 29th: 7 am-11 am & 1 pm-4 pm
We have several items that have been added to our Lost and Found collections due to not having a name on the item or our staff not being able to identify who the item belonged to. If you believe you might have an item in the school that was not returned in your student's pick-up bag you may call the school and we will assist in seeing if the item is in our Lost and Found collection.
Red Devil Family, we hope that you have a great day. if you have any questions, please contact the school.
We hope that each of you is doing well and staying healthy. We have a few announcements for next week.
