March 18 Update

Good evening Red Devil Family!

N-CMS will be open from 8am- 11 am on Thursday, March 19 for those who wish to come and pick up Chromebooks and band instruments.

After 11 am, we will attempt to contact the families of students who at this point have not picked up devices to see who needs them delivered. We will begin making deliveries between 1 pm- 4 pm on Thursday, March 19.

Just a reminder that Newton-Conover City Schools will provide meals for students during the days that schools are closed due to the current coronavirus situation.

Each elementary school in our district (North Newton, Shuford, and South Newton) will be a distribution site. If your child attends the middle or high schools they will be provided meals through the elementary school district in which they live.

You may choose to have the meals delivered or you may drive to the elementary school site and pick up the meals. Students will be provided a breakfast and a dinner meal to be delivered at the same time.

Due to COVID-19 we are having to do tryouts a little different this year. Tryouts for the upcoming school year will be done virtually.
Anyone interested in trying out for cheerleading for the 2020/21 school year, please complete the tryout interest form below. Once the interest form is submitted, we will be in touch with you about the next steps of the tryout process.

Instruction Update During Closure for COVID-19

Good afternoon Red Devil Family!

For students who have Internet access, remote learning will take place online. Thanks to the K-64 Chromebook partnership, all middle school students have a Chromebook to use at home. Your child’s teacher will contact each family regarding how students will access online content. If students do not have online access, instructional materials can be picked up at the school or may be delivered by bus on Fridays. Teachers will also have office hours. During office hours, they will be available for questions or individual student support.

Please contact the main office if you need instructional materials delivered to your child.

For those that are still needing to pick up Chromebooks and or band instruments, you may stop by the school on Wednesday from 8 am- 11am, and from 1 pm-6pm.

Weekly Announcement March 9-13

Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of March 9-13.

Thursday is an early release day for students. School will dismiss at 11. Students will need to be picked up by 11:30. There will be no school for students on March 13th and 16th.

We will host student-led conferences on March 18th from 4 pm to 6 pm. All students and parents are encouraged to attend.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon and will turn our Media Center into our very own bookstore. Find hundreds of books from new and favorite authors, popular series, cool posters, and school supplies, not to mention fun! The Scholastic Book Fair will be here from March 12 to March 20th.

March 12th is the last day of the 3rd quarter. Students need to have all missing assignments turned in this week. Report cards will go home on March 20th.

Weekly Announcements March 2-March 6

Good evening Red Devil Family. Here are your weekly announcements for March 2 through March 6.

Spring Sports begin competition this week. On Tuesday, our baseball team will take on Northview at home, while our soccer and softball teams will be away. On Thursday, soccer and softball will be home to take on Jacobs Fork while our baseball team will be away.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon and will turn the N-CMS Media Center into our very own bookstore. Find hundreds of books from new and favorite authors, popular series, cool posters, and school supplies, not to mention fun! The Scholastic Book Fair will be here starting March 12.

Student-Led Conferences will be held on March 18th from 4 pm to 6 pm. This will be an opportunity for students to showcase their work and share their progress towards meeting personal goals. We encourage all students and parents to attend.

Ms. Bowman will be completing a Chromebook and Accessories Check to make sure your device, charger, and case are in good working order. All students in Ms. Bova's Social Studies Classes will need to bring their Chromebook, charger, and case to school for inspection on Tuesday, March 3. On Wednesday, March 4, all students in Ms. Mourglea's Social Studies Classes will need to bring their Chromebook, charger, and case to school for inspection.

Weekly Announcements February 24-28

Good afternoon Red Devil Family.

Here are your announcements for the week of February 24th through February 28th.

In light of the inclement weather we experienced last week, spring pictures have been rescheduled to Thursday, February 27th. Only students that are purchasing pictures will have their pictures taken.

On Thursday and Friday, our 7th and 8th graders will be attending a presentation about the risk and dangers of vaping. Our school nurse will be leading the presentation.

Mark your calendar. The 8th-grade dance will be held on April 24th, from 6 pm-9 pm. Students must not be on the No Activity List and have a cafeteria balance of $5 or less in order to attend the event.

Chromebook Distribution

Hello Red Devil Family.

We hope that you and your family are doing well.

As I'm sure you're all aware, schools across North Carolina will be closed until at least March 30th. Please know that district leadership is working to get as much of a plan in place as possible that supports the delivery of educational services to our students.

N-CMS will utilize a blend of online instruction and paper/pencil based assignments during the duration of the closure. We are going to open the building up for students/parents to come and pick up their devices at the following times and dates;

Tuesday, March 17- 1 pm-3:30 pm
Wednesday, March 18- 8 am-11 am, 1 pm-6 pm
Thursday, March 19 -8 am-11 am, 1 pm -3:30 pm
Friday, March 20- Deliver to students if necessary,

Students that are in band, may also pick up their instruments at the designated times.

If any families cannot make it to school to pick up devices, please contact our main office and we will schedule a delivery time where we will bring the device to you.

Just a reminder, all school events have been canceled for the duration of the closure.
