Happy Sunday afternoon Discovery family. I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for this week.
A huge shout out to our Quill Team of June, Nolan, Judah, and Maggie for finishing 3rd at the state competition yesterday!!
We will have our Beta Club Induction Ceremony tomorrow evening at 6:00. Students, who will be participating, should have received information regarding it from Ms. Kellogg.
Students, it is extremely important for you to check your emails on a daily basis. For the first semester testing plan, students should refer to the email I sent you on Friday.
The following is our Excessive Absence Policy:
Excessive Absences
The first step to ensure student academic success is for students to be in school each and every day. Therefore, Discovery High School will abide by the following attendance policy.
Students with more than 9 absences (excused or unexcused) per semester will fail that/those course(s) for the semester. Three unexcused tardies will count as an absence. Students have to be present for one hour for semester classes and 30 minutes for year long classes to be counted present daily. Students, who have extenuating circumstances, can appeal this by completing the Attendance Appeal Form which can be found in the front office.
Also, please remember that excessive absences can be grounds for dismissal from Discovery High School.
Students, who have reached the 9 absence threshold (including unexcused tardies), need to pick up an Attendance Appeal Form in the office this week.

As we are coming to the end of the first semester, please be sure to check with your student about how he/she is doing in each of his/her classes. As always, please reach out if there is anything we can do for you.
Take care.

Pickleball club did a modified 3 on 3 this afternoon.

Another shout out to Andrew Corbin and his Belmont Rowing Crew! They raced at the Head of the South regatta in Augusta, Georgia two weekends ago. It was miserable cold and rainy weather but Andrew and his teammates pushed through it. In the quad race they finished with the 3 rd time but the judges penalized them for slightly touching another boat on course. They were placed in 4th which is still amazing in this very competitive event. He also raced in the pair, placing 4th! Congratulations Andrew.

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Thanks to everyone who brought food for our Thanksgiving Feast on Friday. Everyone had a wonderful time and it gave us a chance to reflect on all of the things we're thankful for. Below are the announcements for this week.
We will have Enrichment on Monday and Community on Tuesday. Thanksgiving holiday break will be Wednesday November 22nd through Sunday November 26th.
Students, please keep in mind our Pinnochio norm. I have heard rumors about quite a bit of cheating over the past couple of weeks. You will gain nothing by cheating and will hinder what you are able to learn. It is much better to ask questions when you don't understand something and ask for support when you need it.
The Character Awards for the past couple of weeks can be found at https://drive.google.com/file/d/10Q3g9HdLVD1wC6scxBAFQov4iLfgnrdv/view
Let's have a good short week. If you need anything, please let us know. Take care.

A shout out to Ms. Arditti for bringing in Skip Watts this evening to meet with our seniors and their parents to explain the FAFSA process. Thanks Ms. Arditti.

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Veterans Day weekend. Below are the announcements for this week.
Skip Watts will be at DHS on Tuesday evening at 5:30 to provide information to seniors and thier parents in regards to the FAFSA. This meeting will be held in the media center. Seniors and their parents should plan to attend this important information session.
The Junior Lunch and Learn scheduled for Friday will be rescheduled. Junior parents, please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Arditti about a new date.
Our annual Thanksgiving Feast will be on Friday. Students should plan to bring a dish to share.
Seniors, as you're receiving your college acceptance letters, please bring a copy to the front office so we can post them on our wall.
All students, please be sure that you are shutting your chromebooks down several times a week. This helps updates to take place so that your chromebook will not be forced shut down.
Students and parents, please be reminded of our attendance policy. Students are not allowed to have more than 9 absences per semester without having to go through the appeals process. Also remember that 3 tardies equals 1 absence.
Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday November 22nd through Sunday November 26th.
I hope that everyone has a marvelous week. Take care.
