Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and is rejuvenated to finish this school year off strong. Below are the announcements for this week.
There is some road construction going on West 19th Street so we need to change our traffic pattern in the mornings and afternoons for our car riders. Car riders should turn onto West 15th Street and then turn onto North Ashe Ave. between NCHS and DHS. Turn right onto West 18th Street and take the immediate right into the traffic circle at the front office. Car riders will be dropped off and picked up in this circle at the front office. Cars should then take a left out of the circle and then turn right onto North Ashe Ave at the stop sign to leave campus.
Before break, students met to complete their registration forms for classes for next year. I encourage parents to talk about this with their student.
There is a solar eclipse that will take place approximately between 2 and 4 tomorrow. Everyone should take care and refrain from looking at the sun during this time unless you have special glasses to watch the eclipse.
Our DHS prom is coming up on Saturday April 13th. Students need to see Ms. Ward to pay for this and to get a guest form if they need one. All money is due tomorrow.
Our Spring DHS BBQ is Friday April 19th. More information about this will be shared in the coming days.
Senior Awards Day is on Tuesday May 7th at 9:00.
The Character Awards for this past week can be found at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1op8RNLTSMw2e6FxxFRSBkFUnt6_uYoDh/view?usp=sharing.
I look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow. As always, please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. Take care.

Our juniors had the opportunity to visit UNC - Charlotte today. What a great chance for our students to walk a college campus and see what college life is like and what opportunities are available.

Our first March Madness game of the 2024 season took place yesterday between the Juniors and the Freshmen. Both teams played extremely hard and the atmosphere in the crowd was electric. In the end, the juniors won the game and will await the winner of the Seniors vs. the Sophomores.

As a way to raise money for the Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas, students could pay $1 per strip of tape to tape Mr. Whitener to the wall. We raised $184 for this tremendous cause!

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope all of you have had a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week.
Students, as we come to the end of the 3rd quarter, please keep in mind the Pinnochio norm which states: Similar to the character in the movie, our goal is that students will be as genuinely honest and open with the staff and other students around them as they can. This norm should be displayed by being honest to yourself when completing assignments, tasks, and reaching out when you need it.
The end of the 3rd quarter is Thursday March 7th. There is no school for students on Friday March 8th and Monday March 11th as these are teacher workdays. Students, please see my emai that was sent on Saturday about a community service opportunity on those two dates.
Our enrichment schedule for this week is as follows: Monday and Tuesday Enrichment, Wednesday and Thursday is Community. On Monday, all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will go to the gym to hear about CTE course options. On Wednesday, students have the opportunity to purchase a strip of tape for $1 to tape Mr. Whitener to the wall. Money raised will go to support kids with cancer.
Daylight Savings Time starts on Sunday March 10th. Everyone should set their clocks ahead 1 hour on this date.
On Wednesday March 13th, our juniors will be traveling to UNCC to tour their campus. More information will be coming from Ms. Arditti.
The Character Awards for this week can be found at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1goL0Wh-rBalAHBgHjCqCyfiA_dFWF_Ah/view?usp=sharing.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful short week. As always, please feel free to reach out if there is anything we can do for you.
