Newton-Conover City Schools will operate via Remote Learning Day for Students on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Kid Connection Program at North Newton will operate on a 2-hr delay .
Students should log into their teacher’s Canvas pages to find assignments to complete to receive credit for the day. Teachers are expected to have assignments posted to Canvas by 10 a.m. Teachers will be available for support via email and through the Remind. If students cannot complete assignments, teachers will consider their situations and provide opportunities for them to make up missing work.

Out of an abundance of caution due to predicted overnight/early morning precipitation and below-freezing temperatures, Newton-Conover City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for Students and Staff on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Kid Connection will operate on a 2-hour delay as well.
N-CMS car riders may be dropped off at 9:10 a.m. School officially starts at 9:40 a.m. Parents, do not drop students off early, as there will not be staff to supervise. Bus riders need to adjust the time they report to their stop by 2 hours.
We will still have baseball, softball, and soccer tryouts after school. If anything changes, we will send out a message.

This Spring, Newton Conover Middle School and Discovery High School will be putting on their Musical: "Shrek: The Musical" but we need your help in purchasing costumes, props, and set pieces! Costumes play an integral part in our productions, but they also account for a large portion of the total expenses. Costumes cost, on average, $75 and wigs $40. The cost increases with the more elaborate the costume and various accessories needed. Without costumes, you lose the magical transformation of these high school students into the characters they portray on stage. All money raised will go towards the musical production as well as purchasing a sound board for the school’s auditorium.

Here are your announcements for the week of February 17-21, 2025.
There is no school for students on Monday, February 17. This is a required workday for staff.
The last day of the book fair is Tuesday, February 18.
The deadline to turn in missing assignments from our most recent progress report is Tuesday, February 18. Any outstanding missing assignments will become zeros. We encourage students to stay on top of their work and complete all tasks. Parents, please contact your child’s teachers with questions about specific assignments.
Parents, please review our student dress code outlined in our Parent/Student Handbook and ensure your child meets the appropriate school attire and dress expectations. Students who do not meet dress code guidelines will be asked to change or call home for clothes. Thank you for your help with this.
Our 8th-grade students will meet with N-CHS counselors during the school day on February 28th to discuss registering for high school classes.

Spring athletic tryouts for girls' soccer, baseball, and softball will begin on February 18th. They will be held from 3 to about 5 to 5:30. Please ensure your child’s physical is current before they try out. Students will not be permitted to try out without a current physical on file. There is no school for students on Friday, February 14th, and Monday, February 17. These days are dedicated as workdays for staff.
The Scholastic Book Fair is being held at N-CMS this week. Students can find hundreds of books, along with posters and other items, to purchase. Students will be able to visit the book fair during the school day.

Spring Athletic Tryouts will begin on February 18th for girls’ Soccer, Baseball, and Softball. There will be workouts for baseball pitchers and catchers on February 10. I want to congratulate our Wrestling, Girls', and Boys' basketball teams on an outstanding winter sports season. It has been one of our best, if not the best, collective sports seasons ever at N-CMS. The season concluded with our girls placing second in the CVMSAC and in the Kermit Whisnant Tournament. Our boys took home first place in the CVMSAC and in the tournament. Our Wrestling team placed second in the CVMSAC. Congratulations to all the coaches, athletes, staff, and parents who help make athletics great at N-CMS.

Congratulations to our boys' basketball team for finishing as the undefeated 2024-2025 CVMSAC conference champions and the Kermit Whisnant Tournament Champions!
The girls' and boys' basketball teams picked up wins tonight and will play in the Kermit Whisnant Tournament Championship games tomorrow night.
Game times are at 6 and 7:30 at Northview Middle School.
We would love our Red Devil community to show up and cheer on both teams to a victory!

Here are your announcements for the week of February 3-7, 2025.
Progress reports will go home this Friday. Parents, please review your child’s grades and contact teachers if you have any questions about any missing assignments and your child’s progress.
We want to congratulate Mr. Escamilla for having three middle school band students selected for the All-District Honor Band!
This Wednesday, we will recognize students who qualified for an Honor Card. These students earned A/B grades in all their classes during the first semester of the school year and maintained good attendance.

Spring Athletic Tryouts will begin on February 18th for Soccer, Baseball, and Softball. Please make sure that your physical is up to date before trying out. Contact Mr. Sigmon if you have questions about your physical. In order for students to be eligible to tryout, they must have passed 75% of their Core and EA classes, have 12 or fewer excused or unexcused absences, and not be on the NAL.
Congratulations to the boy’s basketball team for finishing in first place in the conference this year! Our girls' basketball and wrestling teams finished their seasons in second place. Congratulations to these coaches and athletes for a great season!
Our boys' and girls' basketball teams will compete in the Kermit Whisnant Memorial basketball tournament this week at Northview. The first round is on Tuesday, with the boys' team playing at 5:15 and the girls at 6:30. If they win, they will play again on Thursday at the same time with a chance to play in the championship games on Friday. More detailed information about the tournament will be posted on our website this week.

Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of January 27-31, 2025.
Parents, this is a reminder that school begins at 7:40, and students must be in their HR classroom by the bell to not receive a tardy to school. Attendance is important, and the expectation is for students to be on time for school each day. Parents, if your student arrives late to school, you must sign them in so your student is marked present.
On Monday, approximately 120 students who had perfect attendance for Quarter 2 of the school year will participate in a reward. We will continue to recognize students with perfect attendance as the year progresses.
This week, our 7th and 8th-grade students who qualified for our academic reward will travel to Pin Station. To qualify, students must have passed all of their classes for Quarter 2.
On Friday, our 8th-grade students will continue working on their Career Development Plans. These plans are part of the state's initiative to prepare students for life after high school.
In athletic news, Our boys' and girls' basketball teams will travel to Northview on Tuesday and play at Mill Creek on Thursday. Our wrestling team will conclude its season on Thursday at home.

Here are your announcements for the week of January 20-24, 2025.
There is no school for students and staff on Monday, January 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday! School will be back in session on Tuesday.
This week, students who made the A/B honor roll will receive certificates. Students who qualify for an Honor Card will also receive an invitation to our card ceremony.
Sixth-grade students who qualified for our quarter 2 academic reward will go to Pin Station this week to celebrate their hard work in meeting our academic expectations.
Report cards went home this past week. Please contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s grades.
The district-wide spelling bee will be held this Friday at N-CMS.

Our winter sports teams continue to perform at a high level. This week, basketball will play away on Tuesday at Maiden, while wrestling will compete at home. On Thursday, Wrestling will travel away to Arndt, while basketball will be in action at home.

Kid Connection will operate at North Newton Elementary School only from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Students should log into their teacher’s Canvas pages to find basic assignments to complete to receive credit for the day. Assignments will be posted by 10 a.m. Staff will be available via email and through Remind for anyone needing assistance. If students cannot complete assignments, teachers will consider their situations and provide opportunities this week to complete any required assignments.
Reports Cards will go home on Tuesday!
The 8th-grade meeting to learn about the CORE program at N-CHS has been rescheduled to Friday, Jan 17, 2025. The presentation of HCAM, Challenger, and Discovery that was shared with 8th-graders last week will be made available online this week.
Students will take part in Club sign-ups on Friday.
