Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of February 3-7, 2025. Progress reports will go home this Friday. Parents, please review your child’s grades and contact teachers if you have any questions about any missing assignments and your child’s progress. We want to congratulate Mr. Escamilla for having three middle school band students selected for the All-District Honor Band! This Wednesday, we will recognize students who qualified for an Honor Card. These students earned A/B grades in all their classes during the first semester of the school year and maintained good attendance. In athletic news, Spring Athletic Tryouts will begin on February 18th for Soccer, Baseball, and Softball. Please make sure that your physical is up to date before trying out. Contact Mr. Sigmon if you have questions about your physical. In order for students to be eligible to tryout, they must have passed 75% of their Core and EA classes, have 12 or fewer excused or unexcused absences, and not be on the NAL. Congratulations to the boy’s basketball team for finishing in first place in the conference this year! Our girls' basketball and wrestling teams finished their seasons in second place. Congratulations to these coaches and athletes for a great season! Our boys' and girls' basketball teams will compete in the Kermit Whisnant Memorial basketball tournament this week at Northview. The first round is on Tuesday, with the boys' team playing at 5:15 and the girls at 6:30. If they win, they will play again on Thursday at the same time with a chance to play in the championship games on Friday. Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of January 27-31, 2025. Parents, this is a reminder that school begins at 7:40, and students must be in their HR classroom by the bell to not receive a tardy to school. Attendance is important, and the expectation is for students to be on time for school each day. Parents, if your student arrives late to school, you must sign them in so your student is marked present. On Monday, approximately 120 students who had perfect attendance for Quarter 2 of the school year will participate in a reward. We will continue to recognize students with perfect attendance as the year progresses. This week, our 7th and 8th-grade students who qualified for our academic reward will travel to Pin Station. To qualify, students must have passed all of their classes for Quarter 2. On Friday, our 8th-grade students will continue working on their Career Development Plans. These plans are part of the state's initiative to prepare students for life after high school. In athletic news, Our boys' and girls' basketball teams will travel to Northview on Tuesday and play at Mill Creek on Thursday. Our wrestling team will conclude its season on Thursday at home. Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of January 20-24, 2025. There is no school for students and staff on Monday, January 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday! School will be back in session on Tuesday. This week, students who made the A/B honor roll will receive certificates. Students who qualify for an Honor Card will also receive an invitation to our card ceremony. Sixth-grade students who qualified for our quarter 2 academic reward will go to Pin Station this week to celebrate their hard work in meeting our academic expectations. Report cards went home this past week. Please contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s grades. The district-wide spelling bee will be held this Friday at N-CMS. In athletic news, Our winter sports teams continue to perform at a high level. This week, basketball will play away on Tuesday at Maiden, while wrestling will compete at home. On Thursday, Wrestling will travel away to Arndt, while basketball will be in action at home. Car rider dropoff will begin at 9:10 a.m., and school will begin at 9:40 a.m. Please do not drop your student off before 9:10 a.m., as staff will not be available to supervise students. Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for January 13-17, 2025. Newton-Conover City Schools will operate on a Remote Learning Day for Students on Monday, January 13, 2025. Kid Connection will operate at North Newton Elementary School only from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Students should log into their teacher’s Canvas pages to find basic assignments to complete to receive credit for the day. Assignments will be posted by 10 a.m. Staff will be available via email and through Remind for anyone needing assistance. If students cannot complete assignments, teachers will consider their situations and provide opportunities this week to complete any required assignments. Reports Cards will go home on Tuesday! The 8th-grade meeting to learn about the CORE program at N-CHS has been rescheduled to Friday, Jan 17, 2025. The presentation of HCAM, Challenger, and Discovery that was shared with 8th-graders last week will be made available online this week. Students will take part in Club sign-ups on Friday. In athletic news, Our boy’s and girls’ basketball teams will have a home game on Tuesday against Jacobs Fork. On Thursday, they will travel to Grandview. Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of January 6-10, 2025. Happy New Year, and welcome back to the start of the third quarter of the school year.  There is no school for students on Monday, January 6. Teachers will hold conferences with parents of students not meeting academic standards thus far this year.  Students will receive new schedules on Tuesday, January 7th.  Quarter 2 Report Cards will go home with students on Friday, January 10. Parents, this is a reminder that athletic eligibility is based on students passing three out of four Core subject classes and three out of four EA classes each semester. Students failing two or more courses will be placed on our “No Activities List” until the end of the quarter. You can find more information about athletic eligibility and our “No Activity” criteria in our student handbook linked on our website.  On Wednesday, 8th-grade students will attend a presentation by Discovery, HCAM, and Challenger High School. On Friday, the Newton-Conover High School CORE program will be on campus to meet with 8th-graders. Both days will provide students with information about high school options next year.  In athletic news,  Our wrestling team will be away at Mill Creek on Tuesday and will compete at home on Thursday against River Bend. Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of December 16-20, 2024.  I am excited to share that for the second year in a row, N-CMS has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best schools in the state, placing us in the top 40% of middle schools. N-CMS has also met growth according to the state of N.C. assessment standards for the third consecutive year. We are proud of our staff, students, and parents, who work hard to support our students and help them succeed.  This is the final week of quarter 2. All assignments must be submitted this week to count toward students' grades for the quarter.  All students will turn in their Chromebooks and chargers on Wednesday as part of our mid-year collection plan. Devices will be inspected for damages and missing items. Devices will be returned to students in January when they return from the break.  Our N-CMS band will hold a winter concert on Monday, December 16, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at N-CMS.  This event is free to the public, and doors will be open at 5:30. Friday, December 20, will be an early release day for students. N-CMS will dismiss at 11:00 a.m. Students must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. In athletic news,  Our wrestling team will have a match at home on Tuesday against Arndt.
