In our final after school Makerspace of the year, students created exhibits inspired by the Catawba Science Center. Executive Director if CSC, Tracy Hall, came to see our students present. Thank you to all of our staff members that helped make this year’s club a HUGE success! And a BIG SHOUT OUT to our organizer and grant recipient, Mrs. Bolch! Your leadership through this project has benefited our students in so many ways!

Good afternoon Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of May 2-6, 2022. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! We encourage students and parents to tell or show their favorite teacher how much they appreciate the job they do. There will be no school for students on Friday, May 6th. This is an Optional Workday for staff. Chromebook collection will begin Monday, May 2nd. All students will leave their devices on campus and must turn in their cases and chargers. Mark your calendars, End of the Year awards ceremony will take place on Friday, May 13th. Teachers will be in contact with the parents of students that are invited to the ceremony. End of Grade testing will begin the week of May 23rd. A letter will go home with students this week with more information. It is a requirement from the state of NC that all students take End of Grade tests in Math, ELA, and 8th grade Science. There will be a spring chorus concert on Tuesday, May 10 at 2 pm and a spring band concert Thursday, May 12 at 6 pm. This is the last week of the spring sports season. On Tuesday, baseball will be away at Maiden while soccer and softball will be at home. On Thursday, soccer and softball will be away at River Bend, while baseball will be at home. It's time for CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS for rising 6th - 8th graders! Each school's front office has copies of the tryout applications with more information. Please contact cheer coach, Mrs. Kowalewski, by May 9th to let her know your interest. Students must have a physical on file to tryout.

We are entering the homestretch of the school year with only five weeks to go! We encourage students to be at school every day and finish out the school year strong. There will be a Beta Club meeting for all members on Wednesday from 3-4 pm. May 2-6 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Good afternoon Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of April 11-15, 2022. This will be the last week of Makerspace challenges for the school year. Makerspace will meet on Tuesday and Thursday after school. On Wednesday, our 8th-grade students will be taking a reward trip to see the Crawdads play. Parents of 8th graders that have questions about the event will need to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. Progress reports will go home this Thursday. Parents, please review your child's progress and reach out to teachers should you have questions about your child's performance. In observance of Good Friday, there will be no school for students and staff on Friday, April 15. Spring break is April 18-22. Students will return to school on April 25. In athletic news, baseball will be home on Tuesday to take on Jacobs Fork, while softball and soccer are away. The Community Connections Club needs your help!

Good afternoon Red Devil family! Here are your announcements for the week of April 4-8, 2022. We want to thank all our students and parents who participated in our Krispy Kreme fundraiser. We were able to raise $1000 that will go towards safety initiatives. Students will take their last Case21 assessments this week starting on Tuesday. Tuesday will take the reading assessment, Wednesday they will take math, and 8th-grade will take science on Thursday. These assessments will test students on state standards they have covered this school year and will provide teachers with valuable information on standards that may need to be reviewed prior to the EOG testing in May. Parents, please be aware that end-of-year tests will take place within the last 10-days of the school year, May 16-May 27. Students are required to take these exams. A more detailed schedule will be released within the next couple of weeks. Our athletic schedule this week is as follows; soccer and softball will be at home on Tuesday and baseball will be away at River Bend. Teacher Spotlight this week is on Mr. Constantinescu. Mr. C joins us this semester from NCHS. He teaches Health Sciences in the CTE department. He lives in Hickory with his family and 3 children. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Construction Technology and Ball State University with a Master's degree in Career and Technical Education. In his free time, Mr. C enjoys playing and watching soccer and traveling to Tennessee. This year he hopes to inspire and motivate his students to become passionate about health science fields. Welcome to the middle school family, Mr. C!

Good afternoon Red Devil family! Here are your announcements for March 21-25, 2022. Our spring Krispy Kreme fundraiser is taking place now until March 28th. Top sellers in each grade level will get a limo ride out to lunch with a friend of their choice. There will also be rewards for the top classes in each grade level. This Thursday, our Battle of the Books team will travel to Appalachian State University to compete. We want to wish our students the best of luck. This week is our "Spring Forward Spirit Week." Monday is multi-colored day, Tuesday is decade day, Wednesday is workout wear day, Thursday is character day, and Friday is Spring wear day! Please see the flyer that went home with students for more information. Our Spring Picture Day is scheduled for March 29th. This is only for students who prepay. Online ordering and payment are available at carolinaphoto.net. In athletic news, Soccer and Softball will makeup last Thursday's games on Monday, March 21. These games will be at home. On Tuesday, baseball will play at home against Grandview while soccer and softball will be away. Today's Spring Sports Schedule Change!

Join us in welcoming Mr. Jeff Brotherton to the NCMS team as a member of our CTE department for the 2nd semester. He is a National Board Certified Teacher of 23 years. He graduated from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Brotherton is originally from Spartanburg, SC but currently resides in Newton with his wife, Amalia, daughter, Bethany, son, Andrew, and dog, Bella. When he is not teaching, coaching, or driving a bus, you will find him cheering on his favorite teams, the USC Gamecocks and Ohio State Buckeyes, or gardening. His favorite places to visit are Arizona and Utah. His goal for the rest of the year is to get to know as many Red Devil students as possible. Mr. Brotherton, we are happy you are here! Welcome to the family!

This is a reminder to the parents/guardians of all 6th grade students entering the 7th grade in the next school year; students are required to have one dose each of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and meningococcal vaccines if they have not previously received these vaccines. We encourage you to call Catawba County Public Health or your child’s doctor today, to make an appointment to get these vaccines. Please contact your school nurse with questions or concerns.

Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of March 14-18, 2022. This is a reminder there is no school for students on Monday, March 14th. This is a required workday for staff. We will see students back in the building on Tuesday. The start of the fourth quarter of the school year begins Tuesday. Quarter three report cards will go home Friday, March 18. Parents and students, we are in the home stretch of the school year. We want to encourage students to be at school every day and work hard to finish the year off strong. NCMS will be kicking off its Spring Krispy Kreme Fundraiser this week. Students will receive more information about the fundraiser this week. Parents mark your calendars. Spring Picture day will be held on March 29th. Only those students who have prepaid will have their picture taken. Online ordering and payment is now available for prepay sessions at Carolinaphoto.net up until one business day before the session. Our spring sports season kicks off this week. Our golf team will have a match a Cedar Rock on Monday. Our lady soccer and softball team will play at home on Tuesday against Northview and Thursday against Jacobs Fork. Our baseball team will be on the road this week.
