The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics visited our campus on Thursday, April 20th, to meet with the AIG students in each grade level. Mrs. Barrier and Mrs. Poole, from the new Morganton campus, told students about their offerings, the process of enrollment, and the summer programs that are offered. Students learned that upon graduation from NCSSM, with a minimum 3.5 GPA, they would receive free tuition at any school in the University of North Carolina system for four years. Students were also told about our very own Discovery High School student, Will Kennedy, who created a mechanical hand for a young boy who was born without fingers on his left hand. The hand would have cost $25,000 from a company selling prosthetics. Will used a 3-D printer to create one that cost around $200, allowing the boy to change it as he grew older, until he reached adulthood. Students conducted a simulation of the project, using straws, to create artificial fingers. Students found the visit to be interesting and very informative. #groundedandgrowing

Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of April 17-21, 2023. We hope that everyone had an enjoyable spring break and that you could take some time to enjoy family and friends. Students return back to school on Monday, April 17th. We have approximately one month until we begin end-of-grade testing. Parents, mark your calendars; end-of-grade testing will begin on Friday, May 19th, and will run through May 26th. We will provide more updates regarding the testing schedule in the coming weeks. We want to thank all our parents, students, and community members who have helped with our fundraising efforts over the last couple of years. With the money raised and the help from a grant from the Center for Safer Schools, we have been able to tint many of the large sections of windows around campus. This helps reduce visibility into the building by people who visit our campus. This year we have also upgraded our school phone system, purchased new walkies, updated some of our security cameras, and installed a new doorbell buzzer and lock system for our office door. All these updates and additions have been done with school safety in mind. Thank you, parents, students, and community members, for all your support and contributions to the betterment of NCMS. We could not have done it without you! In athletic news, the baseball, softball, and soccer teams will play away at Maiden on Tuesday, April 18. All three teams will play at home on Thursday versus Mill Creek. The golf team will play at Catawba Country Club on Monday, April 17th. That is all for our weekly announcements. Have a great week!

Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of April 3-7, 2023.  Spring break for students and staff will be April 7-16. Students will return back to school on April 17.  Krispy Kreme fundraiser orders and money are due by April 3. All orders must be picked up on April 6.  Parents, please remind your child that they can only bring clear containers with clear liquids to school. Coffey, sodas, etc., are not allowed. We are seeing an increase in students arriving late to school. Students must be in their HR class by 7:40 a.m. If your child is a car rider, there is very little traffic between 7:10 and 7:25 a.m. Most of our traffic arrives in the car rider line after  7:25, resulting in backups and an increase in student tardies. Students in middle and high school do receive office referrals for excessive tardies to school. Parents, thank you for your help with this matter and getting your child to school on time. In athletic news, the golf team will have a match on Monday at Players Ridge, and on Wednesday, they will be at Brushy Mt. Baseball, Soccer, and Softball will be in action at home on Tuesday versus River Bend. They will be at home again on Wednesday to take on Arndt That is all for our weekly announcements. Have a wonderful week and a great Spring Break.
