Newton-Conover Middle School has partnered with “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” (SS-ARS). This program, which fulfills the mandate requirement under 115C-105.51 of NC Law, teaches students, teachers, and administrators how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others, and Say Something to a trusted adult OR use the anonymous reporting system.
Newton-Conover Middle School conducted a school-wide training for all staff and students on November 5, 2021. The “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” is fully operational and available for students to report concerns as needed.
Our students often are aware of the problems their peers are facing, so we must empower them to know the danger signs and give them the tools to help each other with the assistance of trained and caring adults. As you know, most conversations are taking place on social media, therefore it is critical that we teach our students to be looking out for one another as these digital conversations are taking place.
Please encourage your child to submit a tip if they have one.

Retirement Celebration to Honor 2 of NCMS Finest Educators: Mrs. Marylynn Miles and Mrs. Caroline Ingle
This week's Teacher Spotlight is on Mrs. Marylynn Miles. Mrs. Miles has been teaching in Newton-Conover City Schools for 30 years!! This year she has been teaching our 6-8 chorus and 6-8 drumming classses. She is a graduate of Newton-Conover High School and is a Red Devil through and through. She earned her Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Music Education. During her career, she has also earned Teacher of the Year and her students have performed at State and National levels. She resides in Newton with her husband, John, and her sons, Jackson and Davis. She is a Disney fanatic, so naturally, her favorite place to travel is Orlando, FL! MRS. MILES IS RETIRING TODAY and it is bittersweet, as we are sad she won't grace us with her smiling face and Mickey headbands regularly, but knowing that she won't wander too far from home keeps us content. She plans to come back next year to hopefully teach part-time and make more memories with traveling and planning trips to Disney World. Congratulations! We are so proud of you and all you have accomplished in your career. "What is a teacher? I'll tell you: it isn't someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to give of her best in order to discover what she already knows." Thank you, Mrs. Miles, we wish you all the best!
