September 4, 2024
Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family!
Here are your announcements for the week of September 2-6, 2024.
I want to thank our parents, students, and staff for an excellent start to the school year! It has been great having students back in the building. Students have done an excellent job adjusting to schedules, processes, and routines. Parents, you have done a fantastic job with our morning and afternoon car rider line. Again, thank you, and we look forward to a wonderful school year!
This is a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
On Thursday, September 5, from 3:30-4:30, we will hold a mini Open House for 7th-grade students impacted by the scheduling issue with the state PowerSchool system. Parents, you will only visit core subject teachers should you take advantage of this opportunity.
Please fill out the free and reduced lunch application found on our district website. This year, we are offering free breakfast and lunch to all students. However, to keep this program going, we need these applications completed to continue qualifying for the program.
Parents, please go over our school dress code guidelines with your child. Students should have brought a copy of our dress code guidelines home last week. You can also find these guidelines in our Parent/Student handbook. Starting this week, students must change or call home if there are dress code issues. Thank you for being proactive in ensuring there is no disruption to your child's day here at school.
This is a reminder: if your child arrives on campus after 7:38 a.m., you must come in and sign your student into school. Dropping your child off and leaving without signing them in is not permissible for safety reasons. A parent must complete the sign-in process for their child to be counted as present.
In athletic news,
Our fall parent meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 5 5:30-6:30 in the gym. Athletes and parents must attend this meeting to participate in sports this fall.
Cross-country tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday through Wednesday of this week.
On Wednesday, our football team will be in action for a pre-season game against East Burke Middle School. This game will be played at Newton-Conover High School. The game starts at 4:15 p.m. The price of admission is $5.
Fall sports pictures will be taken on Friday, September 6. Please get in touch with your child’s coach if you have any questions.
That is all for our weekly announcements. See you on Tuesday.

This week’s “Da Bomb” selection chosen by Mr. Cannon is Paige Smith (Data Manager).
Mrs. Smith has worked hard to get schedules ready, kept up with enrolling and withdrawing students, and ensured documents were prepared for the start of the school year. She is a vital part of our staff. We are blessed to have her as part of our school family. She brings a positive attitude and is always willing to help others. For all these reasons and many more, Mrs. Smith is “Da Bomb!”

Good afternoon, N-CMS parents.
Here are a couple of reminders as we navigate the first week of school.
If your child arrives on campus after 7:38 a.m., you must come in and sign your student into school. Dropping your child off and leaving without signing them in is not permissible due to safety reasons. A parent must complete the sign-in process for their child to be counted as present.
There are no signouts after 2:30 p.m. unless a parent has a doctor's note. Any adjustments on how your child is to get home must also be made prior to 2:30 p.m.
Students will be bringing home this week a copy of our dress code guidelines. Parents, please review this and ensure your child comes to school within our guidelines. Starting next week, students will have to change or call home if there are dress code issues. Thank you for being proactive with this to ensure there is no disruption to your child's day here at school.
It has been a fantastic start to the school year so far. Thank you, parents, for your efforts and contributions to making the year start off so smoothly.
Have a great evening!

Newton-Conover Middle School is fundraising with the Attractions Dining and Value Guide
to help support school activities, and we need your help!
Attractions is a local coupon book with great savings and deals on just about
everything. Books sell for $25 and have over $3,500 in easy to use savings. One
or two uses easily pays for the book. All coupons are valid now and do not
expire until the end of 2025. We make 50% profit on all sales!

Parents,
We had a great first day of school at N-CMS! Our students did an excellent job navigating the challenges of the first day of school.
This is a reminder that bus routes are still being ironed out across the district. Please be patient with our drivers. It will take this first week to finalize and smooth out routes. Make sure students are at their stops early.
Students who are car riders in the morning need to be ready to exit their vehicles when pulling up to the curb. Also, students should exit their vehicles on the side closest to the curb. This will help keep your child safe when getting out.
Parents, please review the student handbook with your child. Key items to be aware of are the school dress code, the tardy policy, our new policy on perfumes and aerosol sprays, and water bottles. Please reach out to the main office if you have any questions.
Don't forget to sign up for Remind. This is our school-wide communication tool. This is a great way to stay connected to your child's teachers. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
This is a reminder that Cross Country tryouts begin tomorrow afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m. Students must have an updated sports physical on file to try out.
That is all for our announcement today. Have a great evening.

August 26-August 30, 2024
The time has come, and we are thrilled to kick off the new school year on Monday, August 26! We are excited to welcome our returning Red Devils and our new students who will be joining our Red Devil Family!
Parents, after noticing some hiccups in PowerSchool, we have made some adjustments to some student's schedules. This primarily impacted students in 7th grade. Parents who requested their child to be placed in Band and chorus have also had their schedules adjusted to reflect the request. All students will receive an updated schedule on Monday. Should you have any questions about your child's updated schedule, please contact our main office or your child’s teachers.
Parents, please note that students may enter the building at 7:10 a.m. If your child is a car rider, please do not drop your students off before 7:10 a.m., as there will be no supervision, which is a safety concern. School starts at 7:40 a.m. Please be mindful that County Home Rd. will be congested the first couple of days of school. The car rider line will get faster once students and parents learn the drop-off and pickup routines. Parents should not leave their vehicles to walk students to the building.
If your child rides a bus, please be at your assigned stop 10-15 minutes early. Please be patient with drivers, as it typically takes a week to smooth out bus routes. Expect students to be a little later when getting home in the afternoons during the first week of school. We will have staff go around on Monday to each classroom to help ensure that students know their PM bus number and answer any questions. If your child lives close to school and is a “walker,” they must have a walker pass on file. These will be distributed on the first day of school to those students who need it. Students without proper “walker” paperwork on file cannot walk home.
Please note the following safety procedure: a parent/guardian must sign their child in at the front office if a student arrives late, after 7:40 a.m., to school. The front office will document student tardies, and excessive tardies will result in an office referral. We will begin documenting tardies on September 9, 2024, and they will reset after every quarter. Parents, please note that students must be in their HR class by 7:40 a.m. so as not to be counted as tardy. Please ensure your child arrives at school with enough time to walk to class on time.
Free and Reduced lunch applications are live and can be accessed via our district webpage. Paper copies are also available upon request. Parents, please fill out an application even if your child may not eat meals from the cafeteria. Applications are tied to funding, and we would like to have as many dollars as possible to support our students. This year, all students will receive free breakfast and lunch. Please fill out applications to keep this program going.
There will be no school for students and staff on Monday, September 2, in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.
In athletic news, Boys Soccer and Cross Country tryouts will be held directly after school this week. Soccer tryouts will be held from August 26-August 30. Cross Country tryouts will be held Tuesday through Thursday. Students must have a current physical on file to try out and must meet eligibility requirements. Our football team will travel to West Caldwell on Wednesday to take part in a football jamboree.
That is all for our announcement. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for the first day of school.

This year, N-CMS has updated its water bottle and aerosol spray policy. Students must have a clear container and must only carry water around the building. Please see the attached image for examples of approved container styles.
Students will be prohibited from spraying perfumes and aerosol sprays at their lockers, on school buses, in classrooms, and in restrooms this year. Students who are taking PE may put on deodorant. Otherwise, students should not spray any aerosol sprays in the building.
Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions. This information will be reviewed with your child during the first week of school.

Thank you to all our incoming 6th graders who attended Kickstart on Thursday! We enjoyed having our students on campus. Students took part in a scavenger hunt and received information to prepare them for the first day of middle school. Welcome, Red Devils!!

We're excited to kick off another amazing year of learning and growth! Reminder, sports practices will be starting this week too, so get ready to show your school spirit and teamwork! Let's make this year unforgettable! 🏅🏀⚽
