This is a reminder that students who are attending our reteach and retest days on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will need to be at school by 7:40 a.m. Buses will run their usual routes. If your child rides a bus, please be ready about 5-10 minutes early at your bus stop. Breakfast and lunch will be available for students.
Students will spend Tuesday reviewing material, and on Wednesday, they will retake their End-of-Grade tests.
Report cards will be mailed out next week. Students receiving a message on their report card, "Promotion Pending Summer School," must notify the office if their child plans to attend Summer School. Students must not fail more than two classes to be eligible to play sports next year. Summer School may help your child become eligible to play next year.
Please contact the school should you have questions about the reteach and retest days as well as Summer School.

Tomorrow, any student who needs to take a makeup exam due to being absent on your original testing date should be at school. Students who have finished their exams are not required to attend school tomorrow or Friday. Remember, absences will still count but will not negatively impact academic or promotional status.
Friday is an early release day for all students. School will dismiss at 11 a.m. Students that are on campus should be picked up no later than 11:15 a.m.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, students who are invited back to have another opportunity to pass the End-of-Grade test should be at school at regular time. Buses will run like normal both in the morning and in the afternoon on these days. Breakfast and lunch will still be served.

It is hard to believe, but this is the last week of school. We want to thank all our students, parents, and community members for an excellent school year! As an N-CMS faculty and staff, we are blessed to have worked with you this school year!
Cafeteria, technology, and library fees must be paid by the end of the year for students to participate in extracurricular activities next school year. If your child has lost a Chromebook charger, it costs $29 to replace it.
End-of-Grade testing is the focal point this week. Parents, please ensure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before and eats a good breakfast the morning of their tests. Please encourage your child to do their best!
On Monday, 6th and 8th grade students are required to be on campus to take their Reading EOG assessments. 6th and 8th grade students do not need to be signed out early. Students will review for their next test in the afternoon.
On Tuesday, 6th and 7th grade students are required to be on campus to test. This is the last day 6th-grade students are required to be on campus.
On Wednesday, 7th and 8th grade students are required to be on campus to test. This is the last day 7th and 8th grade students are required to be on campus.
Thursday and Friday are reserved for makeup tests. This is for any students who are absent on their original testing date.
Students are only required to be on campus this week on the days they take an EOG test. Please note that students will be marked absent on the days they do not attend, but this will not impact their academic or promotional status. Once students are finished with all of their exams, they are finished with the school year. Only students who turned in the signed permission form by the May 15th deadline can leave school early on their last day of testing at 1:15 p.m. Otherwise, students are expected to remain in school until the normal dismissal time of 2:50 each day.
May 28th and May 29th are Reteach and Retest days for students who want another chance at passing the EOG. Parents will be notified individually if their child is invited back for this.
Summer School applications are still being accepted for students failing two or more classes this year. Students must pass at least three out of four of their Core Classes and three out of four EA classes to be eligible to play sports next year at N-CMS.

This is the last whole week of school for all students.
Please make sure all cafeteria, technology, and library fees are paid before the end of the school year. Students will not receive their end-of-year report card, be allowed to participate in sports after-school activities, or receive a device next school year until these fees are paid off.
N-CMS Beta Club is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, May 15, from 2-6:30 p.m. If you are interested in donating blood, time slots are still available. Our goal is to collect 50 pints of blood. You can sign up for a time on the American Red Cross website.
8th-grade students will take their Math end-of-year test on Friday. 6th and 7th grade students will review and prepare for their tests the following week. Again, all students should be at school every day this week.
Please make sure you return the permission slip by May 15 so your child can be dismissed at 1 p.m. on their last day of testing. Copies of the permission form are available in the main office.

Before testing starts next week, please talk with your students about the importance of following instructions during testing. Failure to follow the rules set forth by the State of North Carolina can result in test misadministration. Individual students or whole classes could be forced to retake the EOG test on a different day if a misadministration occurs.
Please be on time. If students arrive late to school and the test administration has started, they must wait to test or come on the makeup day.
No phones, smartwatches, or electronic devices are allowed during the testing session. Please have students leave their phones and headphones at home.
On Reading test day, students are not allowed to use phones, earbuds, or headphones during a testing session.
If a cell phone or watch goes off during testing, it may be a test misadministration requiring the whole class to test another day.
Students CANNOT talk during breaks.
No food, gum, snacks, or drinks are allowed during testing. Students are allowed to bring a bottle of water.
Students should not bring bookbags on their test days.
Blankets are not permitted.
Testing is over once the entire school has completed the testing session.

There will be an informational meeting during school on Tuesday for any 6th and 7th-grade students interested in playing football or cheerleading next school year.
Cheer tryouts will be held June 3-5, 3-4:30 p.m., at N-CMS. Students must have an updated sports physical on file to participate.

First, we want to say Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all our teachers. We are blessed to have such outstanding educators at N-CMS. Thank you, teachers, for all you do. Parents are welcome to drop off items at the office for teacher appreciation week.
We will host our awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 7th. Students who have earned an award received an invitation to the event. Students will be permitted to sign out after the ceremony. The 6th-grade awards ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m., the 7th-grade awards ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the 8th-grade awards ceremony will start at 8:30 a.m.
Our spring band concert will be on Tuesday, May 7th, starting at 6:30 p.m. This is a free public event. Band students must be at N-CMS by 5:30 p.m.
This upcoming Friday is our last PBIS Major Reward for the year for students who have demonstrated positive behavior and met our PBIS guidelines.
A letter that outlines the testing schedule went home this past week. This letter also included a permission slip students must return by May 15 if they plan to leave early on their last day of testing. There is no school on Friday, May 3, 2024. This is a workday for staff.
Our 8th-grade formal will be held Friday, May 3, from 5-8 p.m. at N-CMS. Students must purchase a ticket no later than April 30 for 20$. Students must not be on the no-activity list for grades, attendance, or behavior, and all Chromebook and lunch fees must be paid off. Please see our website and Facebook page for event attire guidelines.
This week, students will take their last EOG prep assessments for the year. All students will take the Reading EOY practice assessment on Monday and the Math assessment on Tuesday. 8th-grade students will take the Science practice assessment on Wednesday.
Please note that End-of-Grade testing will occur from May 17th to May 24th. The state of North Carolina requires students to take End-of-Grade Testing. A letter will go home this week that outlines the testing schedule. This letter will also include a permission slip students must return by May 15 if they will leave early on their last day of testing. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Our 7th-grade students will have their Q3 academic reward this Thursday for students who qualified by passing all their classes with at least a 70%.

The baseball, softball, and girls' soccer teams will play away at River Bend on Monday. These are makeup games that were canceled due to inclement weather earlier in the season. All teams will take on Northview at home on Tuesday. The teams take on River Bend again at home on Thursday.
